- I can't seem go get my machine to start up the network properly.
-
- I have a generic 386-40 with a Western Digital ethernet card in it.
- The card is recognized at boot time, but /etc/netstart doesn't ifconfig
- the card. So I typed in:
-
- /etc/ifconfig we0 inet 129.179.44.31 up netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 129.179.44.255
-
- and the machine starts putting this to my console:
-
- reject 65531reject65531reject65531.........
-
- repeating every second or so. I've read the FAQ and other instructions, but I
- can't find any relevant info. Any help is greatly appreciated!
-
- BTW I've tried simplifying the ifconfig command by leaving off broadcast, netmask, and up
- but I always get the reject65531 response.
