  16. The VAX device drivers and other low-level modules are ridden through and
  17. through with old V32 (Bell Labs) code.  Much of the newer stuff was donated
  18. by Armando et al from DEC, or written by various kind and desperate hackers
  19. such as Chris Torek while he was at UMD.  However, it is likely that even
  20. if a 4.4 port appears (which appears less and less likely as other deadlines
  21. loom ponderously on the horizon), it will not be part of 4.4-lite or other-
  22. wise freely redistributable.  There's just too much original Bell Labs code
  23. in that part of the system; that's why it wasn't on Net-2.
