- I don't consider $450 to be a **LIBERAL** upgrade cost. For that price, I
- get no increase in functionality or performance. I do get two bug fixes (i.e.,
- the upgrade lets me run A/UX 3.0, and the ability to boot my Mac II from
- floppies after the FDHD upgrade has been installed; I can't do either
- with a PowerCard).
-
- DayStar has let its customers down in the past as well. When I bought the
- PowerCard, DayStar touted its RamCard as a way to increase the memory
- capabilities of the old Mac II line by virtue of a direct (i.e., non-NuBus)
- connection between the RamCard and the PowerCard. This was one of my
- reasons for going to the PowerCard rather than getting a IIfx upgrade. Well,
- they couldn't get this direct bus to work, so now they sell the RamCard
- as only a Ram disk, rather than as real system memory.
-
- Don't get me wrong. In general, the PowerCard has been compatible and
- useful. However, it isn't aging gracefully. May your DayStar purchases
- fair better.
