  11. Is it just me, or is tar _really way broken_ on A/UX 3.0?

  13. I installed 3.0 on my Mac IIsi today, grabbed useful things (like the
  14. UUCP fix, emacs, etc) using Zterm :), copied them over to the unix
  15. filesystem, did the fcnvt thing, etc, etc...

  17. And when I go to extract the tar files, the files tar creates get set
  18. to really obnoxious foreign user id's.

  20. This seems just really _broken_ to me.  I'm not doing the extractions
  21. as root, and every other unix system I've used has created the files
  22. with the uid of the person doing the extraction.  In fact, every other
  23. unix I've used has prevented normal users from creating files owned by
  24. others.

  26. So, what's the scoop?  "Do you extractions as root" is not an answer.
  27. If the answer is "get gnu tar", then that should at least be in the
  28. FAQ.
