  22. Yes, version 2.03 or 2.1.

  24. 1. Boot from the Install diskettes.  
  25. 2. When it asks whether to install or repair, say: repair.
  26. 3. Then follow each instruction carefully.

  28. It will take a few minutes to sort out the root partition on the hard drive.
  29. When has completed, the hard disk will be mounted as /mnt.
  30. If you untarred files into /home/dazza, you will see them in /mnt/home/dazza.
  31. Delete some of them, then cd / and type Ctrl-D to log out.
  32. Then you should be able to reboot normally from the hard drive.

  34. You should have no problem.

  36. Your Installation tape is probably not defective, it was just suffering
  37. from lack of termination on your tape drive.  The tape contains a number
  38. of cpio archives.  The first one is very small.  Some of the archives
  39. are compressed, so you can't read them with simple cpio.

  41. Also, you can often read a "bad" tape if you retension it first.  The command
  42. is "mt retension" or "mt ret".
