- Well, well. I just got an update for the dbx crashes
- system problem. When the rep asked for type of media
- I said floppy disk would be fine, he responded that
- it was to big and wanted to know if I had an 8mm tape.
- After getting the tape I see why 8mm was needed. It had
- over 100Megs of patches!!! One being a csh fix (U407535)
- that wasn't ordered but sent. Well, the APAR info
- seemed to say it was fixing a serious bug, so I applied it.
- My regret was in doing so. It fixed a "problem" that has
- never worked in csh and at the same time broke \<retuen>
- withing single quotes, so all inline awk scripts bo
- longer worked.
-
- I am getting off the track, but this csh patch also came
- with many other "fixes", mainly things pertaining to the
- accounting scripts. Well, guess what? When I rejected the
- update because csh stopped working, it removed all of the
- other fixes too. What bugs me is that the accounting patch also
- fixed a minor problem we were having. I finally had to go
- back and cp csh to csh.old, apply the patch and then rename
- the "fixed" csh to csh.new and then csh.old back to csh. This
- is the only way I could find in info to get only part of the
- fix installed, not that the installp man page is the easiest
- peice of reading!
