- OK, I give up. In the standard config file for cc, the standard options
- include -D_IBMR2 and -D_AIX. Now, I presume _AIX is because it's running
- under the AIX OS (duh...), but what's the _IBMR2 mean? I'm running AIX 3.2
- on an RS/6000 550. Does "IBMR2" mean "RS/6000" ???
-
- The reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to build a freeware package
- (SRC Modula-3 from the Prime Time Freeware 1-2 collection) which has several
- architectures to choose from, with no explanation as to what they mean. The
- ones such as "SUN3" and "VAX" I can figure out, but which one do I choose for
- my RS/6000-AIX 3.2 combination? The possible candidates are "AIX386," "IBMRT,"
- and "IBMR2." (Is there really an AIX for the 386?)
-
- Or perhaps I'm just SOL. It seems very few freeware packages compile on the
- RS/6000 without extensive porting, so most people don't bother. In fact, my
- company is thinking seriously about trading in our $50,000 RS/6000 for a good
- used SPARCstation (or 20 of them!) for this very reason. Doesn't anybody use
- freeware on their RS/6000s?
