- By your note, I'm not sure if you get similar delays in both directions.

- My experience is that modems with compression can induce artificial delays
- by waiting for a bunch of characters to accumulate to allow the data
- stream to be compressed efficiently. Some modems allow you to tune such
- things as packet-size and time-to-wait-for-characters (modem makers have
- have their own special terminology). You might have to break out the
- modem tech ref manual and spend a weekend tuning it to optimize keystroke
- delay...but that will probably NOT be optimal for file transfers.

- Also, if your attaching this to a 64-port adapter, you better crank the
- speed down from 38.4 to at least 19.2 (maybe 9600). The 64-port does NOT
- handle continuous input at 38.4 well.
