- I need to set up some sort of name server for my group
- of hosts on the campus network. Currently, I just have
- resolv.conf files on my hosts but would like to keep some
- sort of local name service when access to the campus name
- server goes away. (I access it through a DS-1 link.)
-
- I understand what a primary and a secondary nameserver is.
- I am pretty sure I don't want either of these. So now I
- think I want either a caching or a forwarding name server.
-
- The problem is that I don't understand quite the subtle
- difference between the two. What I desire is that when
- the DS-1 link is down that I will at least have minimal
- DNS for those hosts local to me, which would probably
- be in the cache. (Ideally, I'd also like some way to force
- some list of hosts into the cache right at boot time so if
- the DS-1 link goes down 3 minutes later, I will have more
- than 2 hosts in the cache.)
-
- I read all the SunOS documentation and think I can set up either
- way. Just need some advice on which one to do....
-
- Thanks in advance,
- Robert
