- : Has anyone gotten a trick to setting up dot matrix line printers with
- : an lpr spooler? I keep getting "Spool Command held" or some such
- : "error".
-
- Ignore the lpr spooler options in wpport and select 'other spoolers'. Then
- enter 'lpr -P<printer>' for the spooler command (where <printer> is the
- spooler name of the printer you want to use. You don't need any special
- filter options and you don't need to tell WP about your line parameters.
-
- This works for me on a SPARCprinter (using NeWSprint and WP's Apple
- LWIINTX driver), an Apple Laserwriter (using transcript), an HPIIIsi
- (as an HP...no PS card) and a couple of different line printers
- (a printronix and a genicom).
-
- : But anyway, yes, I would recommend considering WP now, especially if
- : you have PC weenies who you want to "convert" to your network.
-
- It isn't perfect...but it is certainly a contender now. 5.1 has very
- little similarity to 5.0.
-
- And yes, you can upload PC WP files and read them (and download UNIX WP
- files to your PC).
-
- The ASCII terminal interface hasn't approved...but I don't expect it
- to since WP depends so heavily on function keys (and, after all, most
- word processing packages don't even HAVE support for ASCII terminals).
