- I just went and got the latest version of dstool, which I'd heard
- about, set it up on my system (Sparc 1 running SunOS 4.1.2/OW 3.0),
- added my favourite equations (sinusoidally-forced SEIR (epidemiology/chaos)).
- Everything works fine.
- *However* there wasn't as much functionality as I'd thought. I'm
- certainly not complaining ... the interface is very pretty and extensible.
- I'm not really an X-hacker, though, and I had been hoping that things like
- (e.g.) bifurcation diagram windows, 3-D windows (which I understand are under
- development), and particularly things like local Lyapunov exponent calculation
- were going to be in there. As it stands dstool is fun but not much use to me,
- and I don't think I have the time or the skill to do major enhancements.
- So the question is: do people out there have, or know of, publicly-available
- extensions to dstool? As I hinted above I'm particularly interested in
- nonlinear toys--correlation dimension analyzers, local divergence/Lyap.
- exponent calculators, perhaps nonlinear forecasting code--and ways of
- generating bifurcation diagrams.
- Or is there more functionality in kaos? One person thought there might
- be but wasn't sure.
- I'd like to emphasize that I am *not* bitching at the developers for what
- they have/have not done. What's there is fine, it's just not advanced enough
- for what I want to do/have the time and knowledge to do myself. If I can't
- find dstool stuff I'll just write the necessary pieces in boring old c code.
- Replies by e-mail, I'll summarize if I get anything interesting.
