  11. In a recent attempt to investigate auc-tex, I obtained the distribution
  12. from Aarhus, and followed instructions to the best of my ability.

  15. 1) Problems arose with the first make, where the following was
  16. attempted:

  18.     makeinfo auc-tex.texi
  19.  
  20. While makeinfo might be a useful tool to have, it didn't come with my
  21. distribution of SCO Unix.  What is makeinfo, and where do I get it?

  23. 2) After making up a harmless makeinfo (a bash script which did
  24. nothing), I was able to get a little further, then in an attempt to use
  25. flex I got:

  27.    flex -8  lacheck.lex
  28.    flex: unknown flag 8
  29.  
  30. Now, I'm using a version of flex I got from FSF within the last couple
  31. of years -- do I need to update my flex, or what?  Upon removal of the
  32. offending -8 option, my flex reported:

  34.    flex lacheck.lex
  35.    NULL in input
  36.  
  37. I've heard lots of nice words about auc-tex, but I've not had a great
  38. deal of success in using it myself.  Any suggestions would be
  39. appreciated.
