  34. This is EXACTLY the solution!

  36. Thankfully, our Zenith service folks at University Computing Services
  37. pointed me in the right direction.  I indeed had to upgrade the PAL on
  38. the backplane board from a 444-640-00 to a 444-640-00-1. That, in
  39. addition to moving the jumper from pins 1-2 at U104 to pins 2-3 got
  40. the drive working.

  42. Of course, all of this was outlined in my "Zenith Professional Desktop
  43. Computer Owner's Manual" (part no 595-4251) :-)  :-)

  45. Now, if I could only upgrade the combined parallel/serial IO chip
  46. (82C605) to get FIFO'ed UARTS for my spiffy new 14.4Kb modem, I'd be
  47. THRILLED to death...and would have successfully brought this 4 year
  48. old computer into the 90's.  (It has been kicking and screaming all
  49. the way, of course.)
