- Hi Richard!
- Time for another supercomputers and graphic meeting eh?
- We must do it again.
-
- In article <_ylnt!n.rchrd@netcom.com> rchrd@netcom.com
- (Richard Friedman) writes:
- >But it looks like what started out as
- >an "add-on" feature, SUPERNET, has taken over.
- >I think this is a very bad idea. I've even said so
- >on SUPERNET, only to have my comments deleted by
- >their censors.
-
- Is this so? Something like the Prodigy incident?
- Can you elaborate?
-
- >I found SUPERNETs interface to be so lame and
- >retarded that I'm loathe to use it. I guess one
- >could search around to find the articles you'd
- >want to read, download them, print them, and then
- >read them next time you go to the bathroom.
- >But why?
- >Its really dumb. And especially if now they are
- >going to ask us to PAY for this.
-
-
-
-
- Yeah, I had a few problems with the hierarchical interface, but that's
- a very common thing to do with lots of novice people.
-
- The problem I had was that I recently got email from them asking to
- come back. The email note contained my password to their account
- >>IN THE CLEAR. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. So I recommend subscribers to<<
- >> ^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^<<
- change their passwords to something they don't use on other hosts.
- This contrasts to some of the one-way schemes used by most systems.
- Didn't they have an article on supercomputer security some time ago?
-
-
-
- The other problem I've had are occasional editorial problems (any
- magazine can have them), one can tell they read this Usenet group.
- E.g., David Kahaner's first name was once printed as something other than
- David.
-
- >I would complain regarding the unused $$ of your
- >subscription. Sounds to me like they are pocketing
- >the cash to cover expenses.
- >
- >Maybe its time for some one else to pick yp the
- >pieces are publish another magazine for the
- >supercomputing community.
- >
- >How about "Supercomputer User" for starters?
- >Anyone want to invest?
-
-
- How about Scientific Programming?
-
-
- 8^)
-
- Let me say that I think SR was trying to do something very brave in today's
- economic climate, they just need a little guidance. Their orientation
- is just a tad batchy/IBMish/CRIish. One occasionally wonders what
- workstations are doing in a magazine oriented to supercomputers. I am
- certain that I and others will watch with interest what happens. Meanwhile,
- I should log in and change my passwd.
