- The answer is (as often) "it depends".

- Application level software is binary compatible if you are running
- SunOS 4.1.3. Many drivers and custom system calls are, too. SCSI
- drivers are not, they must be recompiled (at least for a 600 class
- machine which has the same kernel architecture, sun4m).

- If you are running SunOS 5.0 (part of Solaris 2.0), all kernel
- level code has to undergo major rework. Applications are binary
- compatible if they adhere to the rules (i.e. FrameMaker is not
- compatible).
