- I have a SPARCstation 1+ with ROM Revision 1.3 running SunOS 4.1.1. I'd
- really appreciate answers to a couple questions about SCSI disks.
-
- 1. My boot disk is an external Fujitsu M2263A (approx 700MB). It is at
- target 3 (sd0). I can't power up the CPU pizza box and the drive at
- the same time. If I do, I get a console message that the bus is hung,
- and the select light on the drive stays on. I have to switch on all
- my external drives, wait for a few seconds, and then turn on the pizza
- box. Everything is fine in this case, and I'm aware that this is the
- "better" thing to do anyway, but the problem is that as things stand,
- my machine can't auto-boot if the power fails when I'm away.
-
- I'm guessing the problem is that the PROM isn't giving the Fujitsu
- enough time to get ready before the PROM resets the bus. I looked at
- eeprom(8) and couldn't find anything relevant. Is there something I
- can do to fix this?
-
- 2. I have a cheap (cheap, not inexpensive) internal drive from a Mac that
- I'd like to use for /var/spool. I connect it up to one of the internal
- drive bays. The PROM "probe-scsi" command sees it. When I boot, I get
- a message "esp0: Target 2 didn't disconnect after sending COMMAND
- COMPLETE." This drive worked fine in SunOS 4.0.1. What does this
- message mean and why do I get it only in 4.1.1? Is there anything I
- can do about it? The drive has absolutely no jumpers of any kind
- other than three little switches which set the SCSI ID.
-
- Other SCSI devices are a Micropolis 1624 at target 0 (sd3) and an Archive
- Viper at target 4 (st0). Thanks for any and all hints/tips/answers, by
- email or as postings.
