- Ocean v2.5 is now available via anonymous FTP from
-
- ftp.physics.mcgill.ca (132.206.9.13)
-
- under ~ftp/pub/Ocean. The files are
-
- -rw-r--r-- 1 root sys 1807152 Aug 17 09:54 Fish_x19.tar.Z
- -rw-r--r-- 1 root sys 610190 Sep 14 18:29 Sounds_x11.tar.Z
- -rw-r--r-- 1 root sys 85911 Sep 14 18:28 oceanv2.5.tar.Z
-
- The new features (different from v2.4) are improved idle-time
- monitoring (fish reduce cpu consumption if idle time goes to 0),
- increased font size on mail reading window and audio notification of
- mail. Neither the fish nor the sounds are required; there are currently
- 19 fish images and 11 sounbs in the libraries. A pre-built
- binary is also available.
-
- The audio is very simple but effective. A randomly chosen sample
- (or optionally a specific one) is played using the Indigo-type audio
- and the "sfplay" executable. It replaces or augments the mail beep
- when new mail arrives. Volume can be adjusted at start-up time.
- Non-audio equipped machines can still use an audio'ized ocean; it
- disables sound if /dev/audio doesn't exist.
-
- If you wish to contribute sounds to the library, please
- contact me directly. I still want seagulls, surf, foghorn, bouy bell
- and a better seal sound, preferably in AIFF.
-
- Enjoy...
