  12. Soon after upgrading my Indigo to IRIX 4.0.5 from 4.0.1 I began
  13. experiencing system crashes upon logging out on the graphics console.
  14. On the first and next few occasions I received a "PANIC: IRIX killed
  15. due to bus error" message on the textport, but since then typically the mouse
  16. cursor freezes and the system crashes down to the power-off screen. I have
  17. also seen the window system simply die leaving a useable textport onscreen.
  18. I am running with terminateServer: True in /usr/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-config,
  19. and the crash always occurs at about the time the server would
  20. ordinarily be killed gracefully. These crashes do not occur
  21. consistently, and sometimes several logouts are possible before the
  22. system goes down.  FWIW, I have tried setting terminateServer:
  23. False and have never seen a crash running that way.

  25. Is this a known bug in IRIX? I believe I have ruled out software
  26. incompatibility problems by installing a basic 4.0.5 eoe system from
  27. scratch after doing "admin mkfs" from inst. The system has crashed
  28. even with this minimal installation.  Has anyone else seen similar
  29. behavior?

  31. The system is an entry R3K Indigo with starter graphics and 16MB RAM.
  32. OS level (according to the label on the box in which the update CD
  33. came) is 4.0.5, revision A of 7-22-92.
