- Soon after upgrading my Indigo to IRIX 4.0.5 from 4.0.1 I began
- experiencing system crashes upon logging out on the graphics console.
- On the first and next few occasions I received a "PANIC: IRIX killed
- due to bus error" message on the textport, but since then typically the mouse
- cursor freezes and the system crashes down to the power-off screen. I have
- also seen the window system simply die leaving a useable textport onscreen.
- I am running with terminateServer: True in /usr/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-config,
- and the crash always occurs at about the time the server would
- ordinarily be killed gracefully. These crashes do not occur
- consistently, and sometimes several logouts are possible before the
- system goes down. FWIW, I have tried setting terminateServer:
- False and have never seen a crash running that way.
-
- Is this a known bug in IRIX? I believe I have ruled out software
- incompatibility problems by installing a basic 4.0.5 eoe system from
- scratch after doing "admin mkfs" from inst. The system has crashed
- even with this minimal installation. Has anyone else seen similar
- behavior?
-
- The system is an entry R3K Indigo with starter graphics and 16MB RAM.
- OS level (according to the label on the box in which the update CD
- came) is 4.0.5, revision A of 7-22-92.
-
- Any helpful replies/advice either here or by e-mail will be greatly
- appreciated.
-
- Thanks in advance.
