- Now that I have built two "MPC's" (Multi-media PC's) from various components
- (i.e. 486 motherboards, ViewSonic 7 screens, SoundBlaster Pro audio cards,
- etc) I REALLY appreciate how elegant and fast my Indigos are for multimedia.
-
- However, the CDROM market for MAC/PC machines is SOOOO MUCH BIGGER
- than that for SGI (I know, this is an old story). What I want is to
- be able to RUN (not just read) these CDROMS's on my Indigo (e.g.
- Microsoft Bookshelf, Oxford Dictionary, etc.). Is there any hope that at
- some future date that this might be possible? I know that SGI has licensed
- "QuickTime" from Apple. Does this mean that I might be able to use Macintosh
- CDROMS someday? I know we're talking about more than just reading the
- CDROM, but also converting the sound/video information to a SGI-compatible
- formats. Will SGI's recent deal with Avid Technologies help in this regard?
-
- Thanks.
