- In general, the performance of IRIX is adequate for such real-time
- tasks as you describe. However, what you're seeing is a particular bug.
- The IRIX kernel is spinning, waiting for the full graphics FIFO to
- empty. This bug shows up when you move or expose large windows. This
- problem is particularly bad on the 4D/35, because the CPU is so fast,
- and the graphics engine so slow. Unfortunately, the people to whom this
- bug has been assigned have it prioritized such that it hasn't yet been
- fixed. Perhaps they are not aware of the problems it is causing users
- who need real-time performance.
-
- If this really causes a problem for you, please call into the TAC
- and let them know, and/or let your sales rep know that this is
- unacceptable. This will help the assigned bug fixers up the
- priority on this problem. We want to get our real-time performance
- right. (The bug number in question is 69084.) I have also added the
- description of your problem to the internal bug report.
