- Hi,
-
- I will post this because it is pretty good information for all to see.
-
- First, let us set the stage by establishing active NetWare print queues that are
- known to be properly functioning when printed to from the Macintosh. If this
- has not been done, please consult the 3.x installation manual to complete this
- portion of the installation.
-
- Now, when printing to these established queues from the DOS/IPX clients, there
- are 2 menu utilities you should be familiar with:
-
- 1. PRINTDEF
- 2. PRINTCON
-
- With PRINTDEF, you will IMPORT a print device. To do this, just bring up
- PRINTDEF at your DOS workstation, and select PRINT DEVICES\IMPORT PRINT DEVICES.
- At this point, you will be prompted to supply a path for the location of said
- devices. Please supply the path SYS:\PUBLIC. You should then get a list of
- files all of which have the extension *.PDF. Please select the APLASER2.PDF.
- If you do not see APLASER2.PDF, you can get it from NETWIRE under NOVLIB8 in a
- file called PDF.ZIP. You can also get this file via an anonymous FTP on
- SJF-LWP.NOVELL.COM (130.57.11.140). You will find the file (PDF.ZIP) in the
- directory NW311/NWMAC. Once you get the source *.PDF you can import it with
- PRINTDEF.
-
- After this has been done, you can move on to PRINTCON. Here you will configure
- a PRINTJOB. To do so, select EDIT PRINT JOB CONFIGURATIONS and press the insert
- key when the PRINT JOB CONFIGURATIONS window appears. Here you will then supply
- a job name and after pressing enter you will see an entire menu of parameters to
- choose from. The most important entries are FILE SERVER, PRINT QUEUE,
- PRINT SERVER, DEVICE and MODE. Be sure to select the appropriate file server
- and queue. The PRINT SERVER can be either ANY or ATPS_PSRVR. The DEVICE should
- be APPLE LASERWRITER and the MODE is dependant on your printing requirements.
-
- If you want to print POSTSCRIPT from the DOS workstation, please select the MODE
- POSTSCRIPT. After doing this, exit PRINTCON and save the changes. Once at the
- DOS prompt, type the command CAPTURE J=<Job Name>. This will capture your LPT1
- port to the queue specified in the JOB CONFIGURATION and will implement the
- specified parameters. You can CAPTURE other LPT ports by specifying the port
- in the CAPTURE command statement (ex. CAPTURE LPT2 J=<Job Name>).
-
- If you would like to print TEXT (PCL like with the NPRINT command-- ex.
- NPRINT AUTOEXEC.BAT) you can make another PRINT JOB CONFIGURATION. The only
- difference between this job and the POSTSCRIPT job is that you will select the
- POSTTEXT MODE (instead of postscript). You can then CAPTURE a port to this new
- job and will be able to print a simple text file.
-
- You may want to capture one local port to the POSTSCRIPT job and the other to
- the TEXT job. This will circumvent the need to issue new capture commands when
- changing your page description languages. Just print to the appropriate port.
-
- The last thing to have is a SHELL.CFG file in your SHELL DIRECTORY (the area
- where the IPX and NETX are called). This file should have at least the follow-
- ing command in it:
-
- PRINT HEADER = 255
-
- When you bring up your shell, this command should be echoed to the screne and
- all your text printing should work like a charm!
-
- I hope this information is clear...
-
- Think Peace and PLEASE V-O-T-E-VOTE!!!
