- We recently installed NetWare for MAC. This introduced the possibility of
- allowing users to use printers on the AppleTalk network that are closer to
- their offices. Unfortunately, when we attempted to do this all we got to
- print were banner pages with a complaint about a PostScript command error.
-
- In both the NetWare and AppleTalk environments we are using HP LaserJet IIISi
- printers with the PostScript firmware. DOS and Windows applications that
- are generating the PostScript documents work correctly when printing to the
- HP LaserJets connected, directly, to NetWare file servers. It does not make
- any difference whether the server is running 3.10 or 3.11 of NetWare.
-
- One difference in the printer configuration is that in the NetWare environment
- the printers are set for PCL by default. In the AppleTalk environment they
- are set for PS by default.
-
- I'm assuming that the problem is that the DOS and Windows applications are
- sending commands to switch to PostScript and initialize the printer that
- are being treated as errors. Is there an NLM that is cognizant of the
- AppleTalk environment and remove unnecessary initialization commands? And,
- restore the printer environment for the Macintoshes as soon as the print
- job completes?
