- Running 2.1 on a 040 upgraded cube.
-
- This happened:
- When moving some stuff the cable between 040 cube and modem got loose.
- I found out about it the next morning. DTR was not on. And there was a login
- process on the line. So I saw the SND and RCV lights of the modem flickering
- every xx seconds (when a new login prompt was written, I suppose). Init was
- spawning logins. I tried to get init to re-read the tty stuff. This did not
- help (I hadn't found out about DTR yet). Then I saw the DTR light was off. I
- removed the cable. I powered down (just for safety), and returned the cable to
- the OTHER serial port.
- Booting now works fine, but it stops with the "Starting System
- Services" view and nothing happens.
-
- I found out about that. I put the plug in the other serial input and
- rebooted. The system came up normally (phew!).
-
- Now the questions:
- What happens here?
- Suppose my cable breaks. Does that mean I cannot boot my
- machine proper until I have fixed that (since I am unable to change the tty
- database not to try the serial until I am logged in - catch 22).
-
- Oh, btw, the last message is from the automounter who seems to be
- unable to find his address.... Seems unlikely that it has something to do with
- that, but you never know.
-
- Thanks,
-
