- I have my NeXT set up to always look for dialin access, and it allows
- dial-out (uucp as well) as well.
-
- The problem: Sometimes, and only sometimes, when someone dials in, the
- computer still sends out what seem to be modem control codes. Over and over
- and over again.
-
- Here's the pertinent line in my /etc/ttys file; everything else 'cept the
- console is 'off':
-
- ttydfa "/usr/etc/getty std.38400" vt100 on
-
- And here's the entries in /etc/gettytab:
-
- default:\
- :zp:p8:im=\r\n\r\nWelcome to the WhooshMeister! (%h) (%t)\r\n\r\r\n\r:\
- :er=\177:kl=^U:in=^C:lm=\r\n%h login\72 :sp#38400:\
- :lo=/bin/login:tt=vt100:
- .....
- # Fixed speed entries
- ....
- h|std.38400|38400-baud|\
- :sp#38400:
- ....
-
- getty is running with 'std.38400 ttydfa' as its param so it uses the 'h' line
- up there. I have no rotary entry for the modem because it only talks to the
- computer at 38.4Kbps anyway.
-
- (it's a SupraFAX v32bis modem, NeXTconnection '040 hardware flow control
- cable.)
-
- For dialing out I use the latest wermit and set line to /dev/cufa (ditto for
- those times I use tip).
-
- Now, when this happens, my console gets messages like
- !! Cannot reset modem lines
- !! resetting modem
- Although those are *not* the exact messages and I keep forgetting to save
- them. [side note: I sure as h*ll wish programmers would put the program
- name that's generating the errors in the output]
-
- When the person hangs up and calls again, things are fine.
-
- Is this the result of a nicely timed dialin where the modem answers the phone
- in the middle of the computer making sure things are OK? I poll my uucp site
- every hour, but the call-ins are not _near_ that time.
-
- Any clues?
