- As an EXTREMELY happy VS customer, I think I'll field this one.
-
- Lots of things! Other than bug fixes, here's a tidy summation of the
- extra features in version 2.4 versus 2.2 or whatever was the last free
- version.
-
- - Sticky Windows: you can set a window to be "stuck" to the screen,
- so that when you go flying around the virtual desktop, that window
- will stay put. I use it for "sticking" the Preferences application
- onto the screen so that I always have a clock on whatever screen I'm
- at.
-
- - Colored Windows: you can change the colors of the window
- representations in the VirtSpace window. You can then categorize
- applications various windows by color (all Edit windows are green, all
- Stuarts are blue, etc). It doesn't change the acutal window, just the
- representation. This is really only good on color systems.
-
- - Root Window Gone: VS2.4 no longer recognizes the root/background
- window. It's equivalent to making the background sticky, and hiding
- it's representation.
-
- - Active Apps When Clicked: You can activate an application by
- clicking on it's window representation in the VirtSpace window.
-
- - Bring to Front: similar to above, you can bring windows to the
- front via the VirtSpace window.
-
- - Scaleable VirtSpace Window: You can scale the VirtSpace window down
- so it occupies less room and/or gives you more virtual screens in the
- same amount of area.
-
- and last but certainly the neatest!
-
- - Auto Scrolling: VS sets up windows on the borders of th screen.
- When you put the mouse all the way to a border, the window detects it,
- and automatically scrolls in that direction after a certain wait
- period. You can grab other windows, and drag/scroll them off to some
- other area. This feature almost completely eliminates the need for
- the VirtSpace window. It's easier to just move this way, but faster
- to move the other way. It still needs a bit of refinement I think,
- but otherwise it's very slick.
-
- Plus buying the current version gives you ability to upgrade. $30 is
- a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of most software. And for
- how much I use VS, it's practically nothing. Considering if VS costs
- a penny every time I use it, it would have paid itself off in the
- first week I owned it.
