  20. NeXTSTEP 3.0 Includes Novell Client Software
  21. Gives NeXTSTEP Users Automatic Novell NetWare Server Access

  23. REDWOOD CITY, Calif., September 8, 1992 -  NeXT Computer, Inc. and
  24. Novell, Inc. today announced that NeXTSTEP Release 3.0, the third
  25. generation of NeXT's object-oriented environment, began shipping
  26. today with Novell NetWare client software fully integrated with
  27. NeXTSTEP.  This cooperative development effort between NeXT and
  28. Novell represents the first time Novell NetWare client software has
  29. been bundled on a UNIX-based platform.

  31. "By offering NetWare connectivity on the NeXT platform, Novell is
  32. providing its customers with freedom of choice through multivendor
  33. networking solutions," said John Edwards, executive vice president
  34. and general manager, Novell Desktop Systems Group.  "NeXTSTEP and the
  35. NeXTSTEP NetWare client represent a unique combination:  the power of
  36. UNIX as a network-oriented client operating system, plus seamless
  37. access to Novell networks and its services throughout the NeXTSTEP
  38. computing enterprise."

  40. NeXTSTEP Release 3.0 includes the IPX protocols for Novell NetWare
  41. client software, so that NeXTSTEP users can turn their workstations
  42. into clients for NetWare servers.  In this way, NeXTSTEP workstations
  43. can automatically and transparently share files, printers and other
  44. network services that are available on any NetWare server, including
  45. NetWare 2.2 and NetWare 3.11.

  47. The NetWare client software has been completely integrated with
  48. NeXTSTEP's rich networking environment, which allows users to access
  49. and navigate all networks, including NFS, AppleShare and NetWare,
  50. through a single, consistent interface.  And with NeXTSTEP,
  51. application developers now have full access to NetWare services
  52. through NetWare APIs (application programming interfaces) delivered
  53. as part of Release 3.0.

  55. "More personal computer users are on Novell networks than any other
  56. network," said Steven P. Jobs, chairman and CEO of NeXT.  "Automatic
  57. NeXTSTEP access to Novell's servers means access to the wealth of
  58. information residing on heterogeneous networks, at no cost and with
  59. no extra software or hardware.  Because NeXT systems are often sold
  60. into diverse, heterogeneous corporate environments, and because
  61. Novell's NetWare is so prevalent, this bundled Novell client feature
  62. is a tremendous benefit for NeXTSTEP users."

  65. ease-of-use features, such as the ability to browse network resources
  66. and connect to servers with the click of a mouse.  In addition, with
  67. NeXTSTEP's drag-and-drop environment, users can seamlessly integrate
  68. PC files into their NeXTSTEP applications.
