- Purpose?? I think you're assuming here that our enlightened leadership
- *chose* to create the low $. Doubtful, since it seems this group has
- no "purpose" at all other than to cling to power.

- Sorry to venture off into alt.* group territory. It is true that from
- NeXT's point of view the weak dollar could be quite helpful (assuming their
- German costs are relatively low), but studies have shown that prices for
- imported goods fall relatively slowly as a currency rises --- there are
- usually many layers of middlemen in imported goods, and each takes the
- opportunity to increase his profit margin. Only as other competitive
- forces come into play do prices tend to fall. Just think back to the
- (halcyon) days when the dollar was strong.
