- Yes actually you can do it. In the Preferences for Mail.app, select the
- 'Manual' mail retrieval option. This will allow you to start up Mail.app
- without having it automatically transfer your mail from /usr/spool/mail
- until you choose to do so (i.e. until you select 'New Mail' from the
- Utilities option). If you never select 'New Mail', your mail can always
- be read from the console, otherwise you can always get back to it via
- Dan Pritts' suggestion (mail -f ...) above.
