- After recently printing (using Word 4.0) a document I'd received on
- a floppy, I noticed that several other applications (e.g., Excel 4.0)
- began to display some of their menu/screen text differently than
- before printing the document.
-
- It appears that the scaling of the standard bit-mapped Chicago font
- to any size other than the 12 pt size for which the bit map is
- provided. This applies only to the screen font version of Chicago,
- the lazer printer is OKAY.
-
- The font is normally (e.g., whenever 12 pt size is displayed) fairly
- even width for all the lines making up each character. Now the other
- sizes show characters made up of thick and thin lines.
-
- While I understand that the scaling of these fonts often produces
- ill-formed characters, the change is so extreme from what had been
- displayed previously under several diverse applications, that I think
- this is a case of impared processing.
-
- How does a bit-map screen font get scaled to sizes not explicitly
- provided? Does this process ever get scrambled? What do I need
- to recover, re-install System and Finder?
-
- Many thanks,
-
- Michael
