- I sent a message last week about a faulty hard drive icon, and have only
- gotten one reply. Since then other wierd things have happened. I'll
- include the text of the last message below.
-
- >A few days ago, my roommate was moving some System 6 suitcases around on
- >my System 7 machine, deleting some etc. Apparently, he would close a
- >suitcase and right before it was finished closing, he clicked on the
- >suitcase to move it to the trash and the screen flashed and refreshed,
- >with the windows in a different pattern, with some windows that were
- >opened before now closed and others open. Then he trashed the suitcase.
- > Sometime in this process, the icon for the hard drive changed into a
- >simple document icon. Nothing I can do will allow me to change this
- >icon. If I try to paste an icon into the disks info window, it tells me
- >that that it cannot complete the command because the command is not
- >found. This method of icon copying does work for every other icon on my
- >machine. If any one can help me, please send email.
-
- The exact error in this case is:
- "The command cannot be completed because it cannot be found."
-
- No, I am not running file sharing so that isn't the problem. I am
- running System 7 and have run Disinfectant 2.9, so I have no viruses
- that are currently known.
-
- In perusing my disk, I found a file called "MacUser Security 1.1 copy"
- that I did not create, that I know of. When I tried to put this in the
- trash or move it around at all, it gave me the following message:
- "You cannot move "MacUser Security 1.1 copy" to the folder "Desktop"
- because it cannot be found."
- This happens for the trashcan as well, so I cannot delete it. It will
- let me modify the name of the file, but as soon as I hit return it goes
- back to the original name.
-
- I also had a empty folder that it would not let me delete because it
- said that something in the folder was being used. It also listed the
- folder as holding so many billion items. In order to delete it, I
- copied something into the folder, to reset the number.
-
- Now, my roommate's computer just lost a disk icon. Could someone tell
- what is going on, is this a virus?
