- Has anyone actually noticed *improved* performance using AutoDobuler or
- Stuffit Space Saver on a fast machine with a slow disk? The theory is
- that the CPU can decompress the file in less time than it would take to
- read the extra uncompressed data off of the disk.
-
- I currently have an LC II with 80MB Quantum LPS drive and 50mhz 68030
- PowerCache from Daystar Digital. Soon (hopefully) I'll be upgrading to a
- 33mhz 68040 PowerCache. Would Autodoubler or Stuffit Space Saver
- actually improve performance? Which one of these two products would be
- better, where performance is the main criterion rather than saved space?
- (of course the overall performance increase depends on how much space
- was saved in addition to decompression speed)
-
- Can either or both of these products compress files that haven't been
- created yet, before they're ever stored on the disk in uncompressed
- form?
-
- Thanks,
-
