- Howdy. I recently posted for any information on hopping a iisi to 25 MHz by
- swapping the processor clock on the motherboard. I got some email on it,
- basically saying that either it was incorrect to assume that the iisi and
- iici share most support chips in common, or that it would fry the board in
- the long (or short) run. Well, I just got the iisi developer notes, and it
- seems that most of the circuitry (except for the SCSI-SSC(?) combo chip
- were shared with the iici. Also, I've looked at the clock signals to the pds
- slot, and only the processor clock runs off the 40 MHz motherboard clock. This
- being the case, it seems that as long as the pds cards have decent margin
- (common, it seems), there won't be a problem. As for Nubus, I'm not planning to
- use it anyway, so guess it doesn't matter that the only sensible clocking of
- the 10 MHz bus clock would be a div by 2 on the 20 MHz cpu clock. And ... I just
- got some 50 MHz clock crystals from (of all places) the World of Com.-Amiga
- show here in Pasadena.
- Sorry for being so long winded ... The question I have now is : given all this,
- is there any reason (other than maybe running the 030 too hot) that a 40-->50
- MHz crystal upgrade shouldn't work? (BTW, I got the idea from a short blurb
- about a similar boost for the Q700 from 25-->33 MHz; don't remember the name
- of the company or the product, though. Also, Amiga folks appear to do it all the
- time for their accelerators ... which is how I got the oscillators). Please
- email me any information on this. Thanks in advance!
