- The old mac drives all get a bit disc retentive as the years roll on.
- You have to reasonably happy with dismantling and reassembling small
- delicate machinery to try this , bit it works. The sticking problem
- is caused by the grease-type lubricant on the sliding metal surfaces
- going all stiff and er... nonsliding. The trick is to pull the whole
- disc carriage assembly apart, wash the grease off with a good solvent
- (i use acetone - take great care with it) , relubricate with a smear
- of fresh grease (ONLY a smear). Reassemble, and its good for another
- 100,000 miles.
