  17. Soft Solutions repairs SE/30 power supplies for $95 (+ $20-$30 parts).

  19. However, power supply failure is rare for the SE and SE/30;  the only
  20. common failure is that the on/off switch will sometimes die.  I'd try
  21. jumpering out the switch before sending out for repair or replacement.

  23. Second, most symptoms that might seem to indicate power supply trouble
  24. are in fact caused by analog board problems, which are more common.
  25. Soft Solutions sells an analog board repair kit with good quality 
  26. parts that can be installed by anyone with a multitester and a bit
  27. of experience soldering/desoldering circuit board components.
  28. (They also do repairs in-house for much less than the cost of buying
  29. a reconditioned board or ($$$) a new one from an Apple dealer.

  31. I just finished installing most of the parts from a Soft Solutions
  32. kit about an hour ago, and I'm using the Mac now.  Somewhere in the
  33. middle of the process I happened to notice two cracked solder joints
  34. on the analog board -- which I proceeded to fix -- so I'll never 
  35. actually know whether the new flyback transformer, transistors, 
  36. rectifiers, and suchlike actually fixed my Mac.  It does come up 
  37. smiling every time I throw the switch now, so I prefer to think
  38. that it likes the new parts even if it didn't need them ... ;-)
