- jfl-> up and running.
-
- ...one of my favorite topics! I've built two Mac's into a IBM cabinet. Each
- Mac has it's own power supply purchased for about $19 from JDR Electronics.
- The two Mac's each have an adapter card mounted on the video connector, and
- route their signals thru a DPST switch (6 contact) to an LCD Proxima overhead
- projector screen with Flourescent light backlighting (one of those cheap 9"
- dia. things for standard light sockets.)
-
- I have a power-key on the front of the cabinet that controls power (thru a
- relay) to ONE Mac power supply. The other power supply is switched at the
- outlet only, since it runs my BBS. I use the two buttons on the front of the
- cabinet to reset the CPU's. DOn't bother with the interrupt (programmer's
- switch). Generally, a full reset is the way to go.
-
- One of the Mac Plus boards came from Maya Computer (now bankrupt) for $50 - it
- was a Mac 128. I upgraded the board for $199 with something from NewLife.
- The other is a true Mac Plus. I started all this when I dropped the Mac Plus
- on the floor and broke the screen.
-
- It takes a LOT of time to set a system like this up. Then a LOT of patience
- to debug it. Larry Pina's book was a necessary aid to this project. The LCD
- monitor can be purchased for about $800 - especially if you get one of their
- demo units. I got it because of radiation concerns. It's also easy to
- interface to.
-
- Feel free to drop me any questions. OH - there is also a fan wired in to the
- "home" Mac. When I switch it on, in addition to the other, things begin to
- warm up a bit - so it comes on to cool things off.
-
- Leave your postal address, and I'll take some snapshots of the unit and mail
- them to you. It's not REAL pretty, but it works for me!
