- Since your subject line refers to the PS/2 Models 50 and 70:
-
- PS/2 Model 50/50Z: (8550-xxx)
-
- -021:
- NS16550 (FIFO mode not normally enabled)
-
- -031, -061:
- NS16550A (FIFO mode not normally enabled)
-
- PS/2 Model 70-386/70-486: (8570-xxx)
-
- -E61, -061, -081, -121, -161, -B61, -B21:
- NS16550A
-
- -A61, -A81, -A21, -A61:
- NS16550
-
- While I have not tried it on every PS/2 model, I have not run across any
- that can't do 57.6Kbps on the integrated serial port. As an example,
- this is being typed in a DOS TCP/IP SLIP session on a 56.7Kbps locked DTE
- rate... on a PS/2 Model 50-021 that was upgraded with an Aox MicroMASTER
- 486-33MHz. The software is running in an OS/2 2.0 DOS session and it
- is fully buffering the serial port so I'm not losing any characters.
- (OS/2 fully supports extended hardware buffering on my platform which has
- an integrated NS16550 which does not normally have FIFO mode enabled!)
-
- >Also, which pc comm programs now support the 16550AFN?
-
- Most of the popular ones do, andany DOS communications program can take
- advantage of the FIFO mode if running under OS/2 2.0.
