- Purdue supports a DATA OVER VOICE (DOV) system that makes it so that you can use
- the phone for voice and hook up to their computer at the same time over the
- same line. As far as my problem goes, this device is just an external modem.
-
- Here is the deal:
-
- I want to hook up both an internal modem and the DOV at the same time.
- Not to be used at the same time, but so that I cam switch back and forth between
- them using software instead of having to make hardware setup changes. I use
- Windows 3.1 so I want to be able to use this under the windows terminal program
-
- I tryed this setup:
-
- com1 irq4 mouse
- com2 irq3 DOV
- com3 empty
- com4 irq3 modem
-
- This would work fine except that windows won't recgonize com4 at all
- so I can't use the modem in terminal at all. But, even when it is running under
- windows, bitcom recgonizes com4 no problem.
-
- I guess what the problem comes down to is - can you make windows use com4?
- if so, how? Or could I make it use com3 with irq3.
-
- I have a BOCA IO board(ns16450 UART chips) that has jumpers that can set
- which irq's(3,4,5 or 7) connect to which com installed in a 286 home built
- (M.C.T.mother board).
-
- I can set which com the modem hooks up to but it jut uses standard irq's
- for the com to which it is commected
-
- thanks in advance
