- I have a friend who needs help in choosing what kind of PC to buy.
- I know a little about PC's, but I wanted to get some second opinions from
- the net. His list:
-
- 386DX 33 or higher
- 4Mb memory or higher
- SVGA, non-interlaced, 1Mb on card
- 16550 UART's (for high-speed modem stuff)
- 32 bit DMA chip (to use more than 16 Mb memory)
- 64K or better cache memory (hopefully 256K)
- At least 100Mb disk (IDE, I guess)
-
- Any advice on such a system would be helpful. He wants to spend in the
- 1.25K to 1.5K range, which is a reachable price by mail-order, I think. Can
- anyone give any suggestions?
-
- Also, has anyone heard about a company called Vektron, in TX? They're
- his leading choice right now...
