  15. A colleague has a 286 PC clone with a motherboard made by VLSI.
  16. He believes the chipset is also made by VLSI, but is not certain.
  17. He has 4 MB of RAM installed on the motherboard.

  19. The problem is that he needs to find an expanded memory driver,
  20. manager, or emulator to work on this machine in order to run 
  21. certain applications.  Of course if it were a 386 there would be 
  22. many options, but he would like to solve the problem with a 
  23. software only solution if at all possible.  Extended memory 
  24. works fine using HIMEM.SYS, but EMM386.EXE provided with DOS 
  25. 5.0 requires a 386.

  27. He tried a driver called VEMM.SYS but that did not work.
  28. I know Quarterdeck has a package called QRAM that works on 286s
  29. with Chips & Technologies NEAT, LEAP, and SCAT chip sets.  I
  30. believe Qualitas's 386MAX also works with the C&T chip sets on
  31. 286s.  Anyone know for sure if these or any other expanded memory
  32. drivers will works on a VLSI 286 motherboard?  Commercial 
  33. software, shareware, or freeware would all be of interest.
