- Hi
- I am going grey(er) trying to install a Maxoptics Tahiti 2 (eraseable
- optical drive) and SCSI adaptors. I bought it from a Uk company named
- Magstore but it says Mega Box on the front. Here is the problem
-
- First they supplied a BusTek BT-542B, I followed instructions - disabled the
- BIOS and floppy controller, connected it all up and the card just sits there
- flashing its led 3 times - same with another card. (Oh by the way I can only
- manually eject the cartridge by disconnecting the cable from the adaptor
- card and removing the terminator).
-
- They supplied an Adaptek 1542B - same procedure except that it would only
- work if the terminator plug was removed from the drive. Installed ASPI4DOS
- and the Corel software drivers - all seemed to work except that after a few
- writes I get lots of Abort,Retry,Fail messages and I cannot read from the
- drive. It formats ok (or at least seems to) but you just can't use it. The
- Corel DIAGS program will run ok a little then hang on seek or read tests.
- The most frequent error number is 0x030B.
-
- I borrowed a Corel LS2000 8bit adaptor and connected it up, installed the
- Corel ASPI driver, reinstalled the Corel drivers and it all works fine.
- Transferred lots of files seemingly totally reliable.
-
- I haven't mentioned which PC because I have tried 3 different ones with
- exactly the same results. A Elonex 386/25B (OPti chipset, Phoenix bios, 2
- IDE drives 4M) an elonex 286 (G2 chipset, Phoenix bios, 1MFM drive, 1M) and
- a Dell 310 (C&T chipset, Phoenix bios, ESDI drive (CDC), 4M). The only thing
- in common is the Phoenix bios.
-
- I thought it might be the cable so I borrowed another drive and cable and
- daisy chained the Tahiti with a Panasonic 9010 all ok.
-
- It looks as if I will have to abandon a 16bit card and stick with a Corel 8-
- bit.
-
- Anyone any ideas before I send all the boards back? The poor guy at Magstore
- tech support has been very helpful but we are getting stuck here.
