- I have a 286 based computer which is about 3 years old. I've added
- a Maxtor 1720 120meg IDE harddrive. First my CMOS doesn't have the proper
- setting for the drive, so I picked the closest thing to it, 918 cyl 15 hds,
- this makes me kind of nervous. So is there anyway to work around this so I
- don't have to upgrade my BIOS? A device driver would be nice. Second, does
- this drive have any on board cache? If so what does the drive do when the
- system is idle? The reason I ask is because every so often I hear something
- faint that sounds like the disk is reading something. Could that be the on
- board cache or my goofy CMOS settings?
-
- Thanks,
- Steven
