- Sounds more like a software problem to me. As far as I know (which may or
- may not be very far - your milage may vary) the only string to which a
- Hayes compatible modem will respond is +++, which is typically followed
- by ATH or some such. I also seem to recall that there is some degree of
- delay between the "hey you!" string (+++) and the command string.
