  22. Well, I have the new manual and when I complained (on the reader opinion card)
  23. that it wasn't wirebound, I got a call back from their tech pubs department.
  24. The woman I spoke to told me that they opted for a conventional (book) binding
  25. because of all the complaints they got AGAINST wirebound manuals (okay, who's
  26. been complaining about wirebound manuals?).  In any case, after assuring me
  27. that the binding was made with the highest quality polyurethane, and could be
  28. bent back without risk of pages falling out, she went on to say that the new
  29. manual is a SIGNIFICANT improvement over the previous two.  I'm not sure what
  30. SIGNIFICANT means, but she indicated that the old manuals were somewhat rushed
  31. to meet delivery schedules. She also said many of the example programs are new 
  32. or have been rewritten.  I must say the manual is quite good, with LOTS of 
  33. programming examples.  I'm inclined to believe that the manual is better, 
  34. because a friend of mine (who has the old manuals) has learned about several 
  35. 48 features from me -- and he's had his calculator for more than a year longer.

  37. I guess that's bad news for those who have the old manuals -- perhaps you can
  38. purchase the new one from HP?  (Of course at reasonable HP prices! :)
