  19. Two part answer which applies to HP-UX 8.* and 9.0, and Domain/OS 10.3.5
  20. and 10.4:
  21.  
  22. First, HP ships the "supported" X world in two chunks.   The "runtime"
  23. chunk consisting of Xserver, Motif Window Manager, HP-VUE, Shared Libraries,
  24. and corresponding man pages ships bundled with the OS.   The "developers"
  25. chuck consisting of header files, archived libraries, UIL, and corresponding
  26. man pages ships in a layered product known as the UEDK - User Environment
  27. Developers Kit.   Together, they represent what HP does support, but as
  28. many have pointed out, it doesn't support everything available from MIT,
  29. hence....

  31. Second, HP has cooked up the entire MIT offering (R5) for HP-UX and
  32. Domain/OS, and made the results available via InterWorks.   We are hoping
  33. in the long run to establish the InterWorks Contrib tape as our official
  34. way of getting "unsupported contrib" software out the door.   The support
  35. issues fall to the side by doing this, we as an organization don't have
  36. to hassle with system release schedules and rules, and it takes I'd guess
  37. ~3% the effort a real supported release would need.  Since announcing the
  38. InterWorks X contrib, traffic has gone from ~80 to ~1000 ftp-grabs per
  39. month off the Iworks node.   I don't know what the tape and CD ROM traffic
  40. is up to now - the tapes and CD-ROMS address those who don't have network
  41. access.

  43. Like Dave Shaw said, feel free to give feedback via InterWorks.  Two
  44. years ago, I doubted any X contrib would happen - it since has.   Marketing
  45. is now mulling over the results from this years Iworks conference -
  46. imake was mentioned as a "we should finally support" by some in our own
  47. organization.    Could it be in 93' - hopefully.
