- I have an HP 720 running HP-UX 8.07. I've just discovered that the passwd
- program won't accept some special characters. The character in question that
- it tripped over was the @ symbol. When you try to change your passwd it appears
- to be accepting the special character but when you then try to login and use
- that passwd it will fail. At first I thought it was just clumsiness in typing
- in the correct sequence of characters, but after running into this several
- times I started a more controlled experiment. Sure enough whenever I eliminated
- the @ in my password it worked fine. I've never seen a Unix machine do this
- before. I called the Response Center and the guy confirmed this was a
- problem but didn't have a solution. In fact he actually told me he thought
- this was a problem in general with Unix! Has anyone else seen this and know
- of a patch to fix it? I've got a number of different vendor architectures in
- my department with different flavors of Unix on them and none of them exhibit
- this behavior. Thanks in advance for any help.
