- We are using the Korn Shell as login shell quite a long time. Now we
- get a very strong behaviour:
-
- After the login procedure is made (successfully!) the Korn Shell
- refuses to generate a command line prompt. And what is more, you
- can't kill the process running the Korn Shell.
-
- We tried other Login Shells (sh, csh, bash) - no problem at all. But
- when you simply type 'ksh' to invoke a Korn Shell as sub shell - you
- do not get a prompt, and you cannot kill the corresponding process.
-
- The 'zombie processes' running the strange Korn Shells do not generate
- any load on the machine - so they may be some other kind of stuff ...
-
- Our configuration is quite complex (140 HPs: 400s, 700s, several mixed
- clusters running HP-UX 8.0 + 8.07). So before I post some details:
-
- Has anyone a guess (maybe a reference) for this shell behaviour? The
- what string of /bin/ksh is:
- /bin/ksh:
- Version 11/16/88
- $Revision: 66.116.1.1 $
-
- I'm looking forward to anyone with some ideas ...
-
- Thanks
