- Currently, if you have resolv.conf configured on your host it will only
- use DNS, unless it is able to reach each of the nameservers listed in the
- file and each of them responds that no nameserver is running on their port.
- At that point it will then try NIS (if configured) or /etc/hosts. It is
- best to run a nameserver on every logical sub-net, for both performance
- and consistent reachabilitiy... even a caching server on a subnet is better
- than nothing.
