  22. it because it wants to go through and mount every single optical disk in our
  23. jukebox...  Yeah, I know, call ResponseLine...  I'd rather have my teeth
  24. drilled...  But I suppose we forfeit our right to complain since we haven't
  25. given HP an opportunity to fix it (send us Yet Another Patch)...

  27. But even with all that aside, I wasn't impressed with GlancePlus; just a
  28. slightly nicer front-end.  (Yes, yes, I know it provides more accurate
  29. information, so what?)  And what gets me most, it costs a *LOT* for the
  30. 800 series machines (even though our 730 is 10x faster than our 835)...

  32. Actually, I've yet to find any _single_ performance monitoring tool that
  33. sums it all up well: I use monitor, yamm, and top, each for different
  34. strengths...

  36. As for the bundling question, I admit I prefer how HP does it.  Bundle or
  37. make available a minimal tool (monitor, vanilla C compiler, etc.) and then
  38. sell separately the full-blown product (GlancePlus, C development system).
  39. Although I think the vanilla C compiler should be ANSI, and I think monitor
  40. should be distributed with HP-UX, not handed under the table only when
  41. specifically asked for...  HP's disclaimers about unsupported products
  42. are fine; I then know and accept the risks and limitations...
