- Stan,
-
- Thanks for your note. I think that it gives a more accurate picture
- of what happened at the show (with respect to Hurricane Andrew) than
- the "press release" from ki. As a member of the Interex Board of
- Directors, I was in and out of the conference office at the convention
- center during the anticipation and anticlimax; mostly, I watched a very
- professional conference staff do their job very well.
-
- As for fleeing, I, for one, would not have left a disaster shelter
- (the hotel and convention center) to get on an airplane; even if the
- roads had not been clogged and the airport closed. (BTW, there were
- quite a few HP9000 users at the convention center attending a hefty
- HP-UX track focused on 800 series systems. InterWorks is a
- workstation group, not a HP-UX group.)
-
- Surely, the damage to New Orleans, the downtown show area, and
- attendees would have been much worse had Andrew hit head on. I feel
- for those who felt his wrath. However, I think that the situation was
- very well handled all around and heard of few people bailing out due
- to weather.

- P.S. While I have NOT consulted with the rest of the BoD or with the
- staff, I speak, more or less officially, for Interex and take heat for
- it as appropriate. Feel free to direct comments to or through me as
- appropriate.
