Hello Folks,
I have been devising a scheme whereby values of certain desirable environment
variables are stored in the TERM variable in order that a user can telnet to
another system and then restore these values automatically (for a little
less hassle). I discovered this scheme in the July 1992 UNIX WORLD.
It works fine except in this one instance. If one telnets from a workstation
which does not have a name in a nameserver (it only has an IP address for setting up the DISPLAY variable), TELNET doesn't export my prepacked TERM variable. Instead, it changes TERM to the value "unknown".
My question is: "why does it do this and can I stop it"
This problem doesn't happen with RLOGIN.
